Appalachian Power and its affiliate, AEP West Virginia Transmission Company Inc., plan to increase electric reliability by making upgrades to the transmission system in Jackson and Mason counties in West Virginia.
The Ravenswood Area Improvements Project involves rebuilding about 30 miles of aging transmission infrastructure with modern equipment to reduce the likelihood of extended outages to customers.
Construction is expected to start in the fall of 2019 and last about two years. Estimated budget for the project is $60 million.
2/07/2020- Crews plan to begin clearing trees and building access roads early this year. Transmission line construction begins this summer. Company representatives expect all construction to conclude the end of 2021.
4/03/2019 - Project team members are currently working to finalize the design for the new transmission line. Tree clearing and access road construction is expected to begin this fall.
8/14/2018 - Appalachian Power has determined a proposed route for the Ravenswood Area Improvements Project. The route was determined by incorporating public input gathered from landowners and community members. O.R. Colan, who will serve as Appalachian Power’s right-of-way contractor, will start contacting landowners along the route to discuss upcoming project activities.
5/17/2018 - Appalachian Power held an open house on May 15 to introduce proposed study segments, answer questions related to the project and gather feedback from the community. The company will utilize the information gathered to determine a proposed transmission line route.
5/01/2018 - Appalachian Power will host an informational open house to introduce proposed study segments and answer questions related to the project. The open house will be Tuesday, May 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Jackson County Armory.
