Whether we live in a rural or urban setting, transmission is vital to our way of life. Transmission is the superhighway of the nation’s electricity grid, moving the power America needs over long distances. It makes our digital economy possible, serves the needs of industry, helps communities attract new employers and safeguards our national security.
While our transmission system is built to last, parts can wear out or become obsolete over time. This is especially the case now, considering some parts of AEP’s transmission system were built 100 years ago.
Just like a car must be repaired and eventually upgraded to provide a safe and efficient means of transportation, our transmission system must constantly be maintained and upgraded to ensure it is safe, resilient, and always available.
