AEP’s transmission planning is governed by criteria set forth by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs), and established AEP guidelines to address its obligations for local reliability, customer service and asset management (including equipment material condition, performance and risk, infrastructure resilience, operational flexibility and efficiency). AEP continuously reviews, updates, and prioritizes system needs to develop projects that comply with regulatory obligations and provide the maximum benefit to customers.
