HernshawArea Improvements Project

Appalachian Power representatives plan to increase electric reliability by making upgrades in Kanawha County in West Virginia.

The Hernshaw Area Improvements Project involves building approximately 4 miles of electric transmission line and expanding a substation. Company representatives expect construction to begin fall 2023 and conclude by late 2024.

Project Updates

03/07/23: A majority of construction has been completed. Construction is on hold until fall 2023 to allow company representatives to receive necessary permits and is expected to conclude by late 2024.

01/21/21: The project team has determined a proposed line route after reviewing input from landowners and community members. In the coming months, landowners along the line route can expect to hear from the right-of-way contractor representing Appalachian Power.

10/27/20: Project representatives encourage landowners to submit their feedback about the project by Friday, November 20.
