Boone CountyArea Improvements Project

Appalachian Power and its affiliate, AEP West Virginia Transmission Company, plan to increase reliability in southern West Virginia by making significant upgrades in the existing transmission system. The Boone County Area Improvements Project is a two-phase project that will strengthen the power grid in Boone and Kanawha counties by replacing aging transmission equipment with new and modern technology.

Appalachian Power introduced the Boone - Cabin Creek phase of the project at an open house in September 2016. The open house for the Boone - South Charleston phase was held in the spring of 2017. Following extensive customer and route analysis, the company announced a proposed route in October 2017.

Construction is currently underway and is expected to be complete by the end of 2020.

Estimated total budget for both phases is $100 million.
