The Shipman - Schuyler component is a phase of the Central Virginia Transmission Reliability Project. This phase includes constructing two new substations and retiring aging infrastructure in Nelson County.
Company representatives expect construction will begin spring 2023.
1/13/2021 - Company representatives have purchased property for both substation sites and plan to file the project with the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) later this month. The proposed substation locations are shown above in the interactive map.
12/02/2020: Appalachian Power representatives are finalizing project details. The project team plans to file the project with the Virginia State Corporation Commission at the beginning of 2021.

A short transmission line will be required to connect the new electrical source to the substation. The transmission line will be located on Appalachian Power property. Appalachian Power will use galvanized steel double circuit monopole structures to construct the transmission line.
