Fieldale - RidgewayTransmission Line Rebuild Project


Appalachian Power representatives plan to increase electric reliability in Henry County by updating the local electric transmission system. The Fieldale-Ridgeway Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves upgrading approximately 15 miles of transmission line.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2024 and conclude by late 2025.

Project Updates

01/24/23: Right-of-way agents are currently working with landowners to acquire necessary easements for the project. Construction is expected to begin in 2024. For more information about the construction activities and timeline, view the project Construction FAQ.

07/22/22: The company received SCC approval to move forward with the project. Right-of-way agents plan to contact landowners along the power line route to discuss next steps.

11/23/21: Appalachian Power representatives have submitted the project to the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeking approval for the upgrades. Once the case is accepted for review you can follow the case and contact the Virginia State Corporation Commission on their website: www.scc.virginia.gov/pages/Case-Information.

10/01/21: The project team has determined a proposed power line route and plans to submit an application to the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) this fall seeking approval for the upgrades. If the SCC accepts Appalachian Power’s application, property owners located along the power line route can expect another mailing explaining how to participate in the project approval process. If the SCC approves the project, property owners can expect to hear about next steps from the right-of-way contractor representing Appalachian Power.

03/17/21: Appalachian Power representatives encourage landowners to submit their feedback about the project by April 19th.
