AEP Ohio representatives plan power grid upgrades in Madison County. The project involves building Patina Station, Mirkwood Station, and about 11 miles of transmission line to provide power to a customer facility and help meet the area’s growing electrical load demand.
The project involves:
*This project requires Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) approval.
Company representatives plan to evaluate study segments in the area for the proposed power line corridors. Study segments are multiple alternatives presented to determine line routes. Company representatives do not build all study segments, but rather they select two transmission line routes based on public feedback and feasibility.
Summer 2026: The project team hosted an in-person open house on April 30 to discuss the project and obtain feedback from the community. A virtual open house is available on the right side of the page.
As the project continues to develop, field studies are needed to help the project team decide on the final line route, as well as support engineering and environmental efforts. As part of this work, landowners may be contacted by OR Colan, Inc. (ORC), the right-of-way company working on behalf of AEP Ohio. Field studies do not confirm a line route but are a tool used to help the team during the evaluation process.
Crews plan to install steel monopoles.
Structure Height: Approximately 125 - 165 feet*
Right-of-Way Width: Approximately 150 - 350 feet*
*Exact structure types, height and right-of-way requirements may vary
