Lamping Substation Project

The proposed Lamping Station Project is part of the overall Southeast Ohio Area Improvements Project. AEP Ohio, AEP Ohio Transmission Company, Inc., Buckeye Power and Washington Electric Cooperative signed a Memorandum of Understanding that implements a long-term plan aimed at enhancing the reliability of the Marietta and surrounding area’s electric transmission and distribution network. This infrastructure needs to be rebuilt and redesigned to meet the needs of the customers across this region.

The Lamping Substation Project consists of building a new 345-kilovolt (kV) to 138 kV substation in Washington Township in Monroe County. This project will provide a new power source and will improve the reliability of the electric transmission grid for existing customers, allowing for future economic growth to Marietta and surrounding areas.

AEP Ohio projects the Lamping Substation Project will be an approximate $30 million investment by the company.

    Project Updates

The Ohio Power Siting Board granted approval to construct this project on September 29, 2017. Construction began in early 2019 and is expected to be completed by summer 2019.

    Proposed Structures

Single-pole, steel structures have been selected for the new section of transmission line that will provide power to the substation. This will minimize the physical impact of the facilities. Poles will be approximately 120 feet tall.
