Buchanan - Bridgman Transmission Line Project
AEP Transmission representatives plan to improve electric reliability by upgrading the power grid between Buchanan and Bridgman. The Buchanan-Bridgman Transmission Line Project involves building two new substations and updating about 20 miles of transmission line.
The Buchanan-Bridgman Transmission Project involves:
- Building Moon Lake Substation off Broceus School Road.
- Building Bucktown Substation off Skyline Drive north of Front Street.
- Rebuilding about 3 miles of transmission line from a structure near the Buchanan Dam to the new Moon Lake Substation off Broceus School Road.
- Removing about 2 miles of transmission line between Buchanan South Substation and Jack Post Substation off East 3rd Street.
- Rebuilding about 15 miles of transmission line from Bridgman Substation off Red Arrow Highway to the new Bucktown Substation near Broceus School Road and Andrews Road.
- Retiring about 1 mile of transmission line from near the Buchanan Dam to the Jack Post Substation off of East 3rd Street.
Retiring the existing 2-mile line involves removing transmission wires and tops of poles. Lower-voltage distribution wires, third-party utilities and associated poles may remain.
