South Cass CountyTransmission Line Project
Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) representatives plan power grid upgrades to improve electric reliability for customers in southern Cass County.
The project involves:
- Building Surges Road Substation off Surges Road in Milton Township.
- Building about 3 miles of 138-kilovolt electric transmission line connecting Surges Road Substation to existing transmission lines.
The project strengthens the electric transmission system by providing an additional power source to customer transmission facilities and helping to meet the area's growing electrical demand.
Project Updates
Early 2025: To prepare for construction, crews have begun clearing vegetation from the work area. Construction of the substation and electric transmission lines begins this spring and is expected to conclude this fall, depending on weather and other factors.
I&M crews take every precaution during construction to ensure public safety, including minimizing traffic delays. Flaggers and other safety measures direct traffic along public roads during this time.
O.R. Colan Associates continues to serve I&M as right-of-way representative on this project.
