Northeast Oklahoma Transmission Enhancement Project

Representatives of AEP Oklahoma Transmission Company, Inc. (OK Transco) plan to expand the electric transmission system in northeast Oklahoma as part of a regional reliability effort. Construction expected to begin in summer 2028 and concludes in late 2029.

Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the regional transmission operator (RTO) who oversees and monitors the power grid across 17 states, mandated this project as a regional effort to enhance grid reliability in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

The improvements:

• Enhance electric service reliability and resiliency.
• Reduce the frequency and duration of power outages.
• Improve ability to deliver power during extreme weather events.
• Optimize operations and lower the cost to deliver power across the region.
• Improve the transmission of low-cost energy to eastern areas of the SPP footprint, including northeast Oklahoma.

Summer 2026: The final route for NEOTEP West and East was submitted to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) for review. Feedback from landowners, agencies, Tribal Nations, and community members was considered throughout the route selection process. In addition, Ok Transco engaged with tribal leaders to better understand tribal lands and identify culturally and historically significant areas that may not have been captured through traditional routing analysis.

We filed a route plan for the Delaware to Monett segment (NEOTEP East) on August 21, 2026 as part of our application with the OCC.
