AEP Ohio representatives plan power grid upgrades to improve electric reliability for customers in Jefferson County. The Fort Steuben-Hammondsville Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves rebuilding about 20 miles of power line.
Company representatives plan to rebuild most of the power line in or near its current location. Route options are being evaluated in select areas, which may require updating or obtaining new easements. Easements are defined land rights that property owners grant the utility to allow for the safe construction, operation, and maintenance of the power line.
No final line route has been determined. We are actively seeking input from the community to help us choose the best option for the project.
September 2025: Company representatives invite the community to an open house on October 1 from 5 to 7:00 p.m. at Toronto High School 1305 Dennis Way in Toronto. There is no formal presentation, so you can arrive at any time during the event. You can view detailed maps and talk with team members about the transmission project.
