Niles AreaTransmission Improvements Project

Indiana Michigan Power plans to upgrade the power grid in the Niles area by making improvements to the transmission infrastructure. The Niles Area Transmission Improvements Project helps strengthen the local power grid and increases electric reliability for area customers. Work is planned in Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan and St. Joseph County in Indiana.

Early 2026: 

Vegetation clearing to prepare for construction on Niles Central begins in January. Landowners affected by the clearing can expect to be contacted by a right-of-way agent from O.R. Colan (ORC), I&M’s right-of-way representative on this project. 

All components of Niles North are now in service. Restoration is underway and scheduled to complete in spring. O.R. Colan Associates (ORC) continues to represent I&M on this project.
