Niles AreaTransmission Improvements Project
Indiana Michigan Power plans to upgrade the power grid in the Niles area by making improvements to the transmission infrastructure. The Niles Area Transmission Improvements Project helps strengthen the local power grid and increases electric reliability for area customers. Work is planned in Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan and St. Joseph County in Indiana.
Project Updates
December 2025: Crews successfully completed construction of Niles South, and these facilities are now in service. Restoration efforts are planned for spring 2026. Construction on Niles North is currently underway. O.R. Colan Associates (ORC) continues to represent I&M on this project.
O.R. Colan (ORC) serves as I&M’s right-of-way representative on Niles Central. Landowners can expect to hear from an ORC agent as right-of-way activities progress. Company representatives may need to supplement or acquire new easements for the transmission line. Easements are defined land rights that property owners grant the utility to allow for the safe construction, operation and maintenance of the power line.
