Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) plans to strengthen the electric grid in the Shreveport region by rebuilding about 11 miles of 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line.
The transmission line was built in 1963 and is past its planned service life. Since 2015, this line has experienced several power outages due to weather impacts and substation equipment failures
The Project:
July 2023 – SWEPCO representatives hosted a public open house in July 2023, where landowners were invited to view detailed maps, talk with team member and learn more about the project.
Early 2024 – In preparation for construction activities, SWEPCO crews and contractors are beginning to inspect portions of the company’s right-of-way. During this process you may see surveying equipment, machinery, boundary markers and flags along the line route. Ribbon and other markers placed on trees, bushes and other plants does not necessarily indicate that it will be removed as part of SWEPCO’s vegetation management program.
SWEPCO crews plan to install single-pole steel structures.
Typical Pole Height: 75 FEET*
*Exact structure, height and right-of-way may vary.
SWEPCO serves 535,000 customers in western Arkansas, northwest and central Louisiana, northeast Texas and the Texas Panhandle.
