Kincaid Area Transmission Line Project

The Kincaid Area Transmission Line Project involved building about 15 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) line, rebuilding approximately 2 miles of 69-kV transmission line, and building two new substations and upgrading several existing substations to strengthen the transmission grid in Fayette County. Construction began in late 2023 and concluded in spring 2026.

FAA Recommended Visibility Enhancements

As part of the Whitewater 69-kV Extension phase of the project, Appalachian Power representatives plan to rebuild about one mile of transmission line across the New River Gorge and installing 36-inch lit marker balls with steady red lights, consistent with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidance. Crews plan to begin tree clearing and access road construction in November 2026. Construction of the transmission line is expected to begin in early 2027 and finish by spring 2027.
