Appalachian Power representatives plan to relocate a portion of the Darrah-Owens transmission line in Huntington, West Virginia. The project allows for more space between the transmission line facilities and 8th Avenue to accommodate traffic safety needs. The relocation spans less than a quarter-mile and includes installing 8 steel, single-pole structures.
Some poles along the south side of 8th Avenue will remain or be shifted away from the road to allow for some Appalachian Power wires and other attached utility wires (cable, internet and phone) to remain in place.
Construction will take place on 8th Avenue, beginning at the cross section of Artisan Avenue and ending near the cross section of 26th Street. Construction begins in fall 2024 and concludes by summer 2025. During construction, traveling on 8th Avenue may result in delays. Please find an alternative route if possible.
September 2024: Construction begins the end of September and will start with tree clearing. This activity will not require any road closures. As the project progresses traffic will be impacted at times. Check back here for details as they become available.
Crews plan to rebuild the power line using steel, single-pole structures.
