Appalachian Power representatives plan to upgrade the transmission system in Huntington, West Virginia. The Darrah-Barnett Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves upgrading approximately 3 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line and two substations.
Construction begins in summer 2028 and concludes early 2029.
July 8, 2026: Company representatives have determined a proposed power line route after reviewing land use, environmental impact and community input provided during an in-person house held earlier this year. Impacted landowners can expect to hear from Appalachian Power’s right-of-way representatives on the project.
February 18, 2026: Appalachian Power representatives encourage community members and landowners to attend the in-person open house to learn more about this project. There is no formal presentation, so residents may join the planned event at any time. The open house is planned for Wednesday, March 18, 5-7 p.m. at the Fairfield East Community Center, 2711 8th Ave, Huntington, WV 25703.
