Appalachian Power representatives plan upgrades to the electric transmission grid in Washington County. The Washington County Improvements Project: South Abingdon-Arrowhead involves building approximately 6.5 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line and upgrading three substations.
9/6/2024 - Transmission line construction is currently underway. Crews plan to use a helicopter on 9/17 to install wire on some of the new structures, weather permitting. The work will resume in mid-October and mid-November until the wire has been installed on all of the new structures.
2/27/2024: Crews plan to begin clearing trees and building access roads in March to prepare for construction. Crews plan to begin transmission line construction this spring.
11/2/2023: Crews plan to begin construction next spring and conclude by spring 2025.
2/3/2022: Right-of-way representatives continue to work with landowners impacted by the proposed route. Crews plan to begin field surveys in the coming months.
