Independence Area Project

Appalachian Power representatives plan to upgrade the power grid in southwest Virginia by making improvements to the transmission infrastructure. The Independence Area Project provides the area with a new substation and a new electrical source to provide continued reliable electric service. Work for the project is expected to begin in 2021 and conclude Summer 2024.
