Red Oak - TalihinaTransmission Line Rebuild Project
Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) representatives plan to upgrade the local electric transmission grid in Latimer and Le Flore counties. The Red Oak-Talihina Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves upgrading about 15 miles of electric transmission line to enhance electric reliability for area customers.
Replacing aging wooden poles with modern steel poles upgrades the local grid and strengthens the line against weather impacts. These upgrades plus enhancements at area substations reduce the likelihood of larger, community-sustained outages.
Project Updates
Fall 2024: As this project has evolved, the timeline has shifted. PSO representatives plan for the following schedule:
- Pre-construction activities begin in late 2025. These activities may include:
- Placing stakes and ribbon within the company's easement on your property
- Trimming or removing trees and other woody-stemmed vegetation, as appropriate, within the transmission line right-of-way
- Installing temporary gates, fencing and access roads
- Installing culverts for water management
- Transmission line construction starts in early 2026
- Construction concludes and facilities placed in service in spring 2027
Spring 2023: As the project has developed, PSO representatives have shifted the construction schedule. PSO representatives expect to start pre-construction activities in early January 2024, with transmission line construction following shortly thereafter in early February 2024. Crews plan to finish construction activities in late March 2025.
Fall 2022: PSO representatives determined that this rebuild project will be between the PSO's Talihina West and Red Oak substations. Crews expect to begin pre-construction activities in spring 2023 and full transmission line construction should begin in early summer 2023. PSO representatives plan to finish construction in late fall 2024.
