Project Updates

Fall 2024: PSO crews and contractors have worked since the spring to install temporary gates, fencing and other access along the power line route.

Crews plan to begin construction on the first segment of the line rebuild this fall. The construction sections and timeframes are as follows:

  • Segment 1 (Pittsburg Substation - Johnston County OG&E Substation) - Starting this fall, crews will work generally westward from PSO's Pittsburg Substation toward OG&E's Johnston County Substation replacing wooden poles with steel poles. PSO representatives expect this work to last through spring 2025.
  • Segment 2 (Johnston County OG&E Substation - Sunnyside OG&E Substation) - PSO representatives expect crews to rebuild this segment starting in spring 2025 and concluding in early 2026.

In early 2025, PSO representatives plan for contractor forestry crews to travel along the power line route trimming or removing trees and other woody-stemmed vegetation from PSO's right-of-way. This ensures the electrical grid's reliability for customers while keeping the public and power line crews safe.

Volkert, Inc., continues to serve as PSO’s right-of-way representative for this project. Volkert right-of-way agents are contacting affected landowners to discuss field activities, easement acquisition and construction.

Early 2024: As this project has evolved, the timeline has shifted. Pre-construction activities along the line route are ongoing, with crews working from east to west. This work includes:
• Installing temporary gates, fencing and access roads
• Installing culverts for water management

PSO representatives plan to start transmission line construction in the fall and conclude by early 2026.

Summer 2023: Volkert, Inc., serves as PSO’s right-of-way representative for this project. Volkert right-of-way agents plan to contact affected landowners to discuss field activities, easement acquisition and construction. PSO representatives expect pre-construction activities to start in early fall 2023. To safely perform these activities, crews may need to:

• Remove woody-stemmed vegetation from the right-of-way
• Install temporary gates, fencing and access roads
• Install culverts for water management

Crews plan to start construction activities in fall 2023 and conclude by early 2025.

Late 2022: Volkert, Inc., serves as PSO’s right-of-way representative for this project. Volkert right-of-way agents plan to contact affected landowners to discuss field activities, easement acquisition and construction.
