Millwood - HowardTransmission Line Rebuild Project
AEP Ohio representatives plan power grid upgrades to improve electric reliability for customers between Howard and Shelby in Richland and Knox counties. The Millwood-Howard Transmission Line Project involves rebuilding about 36 miles of power line.
The existing transmission line consists of 95-year-old lattice towers that need to be replaced to better serve customers. The upgrades bring the power line up to modern standards, improve operational performance and enhance electric reliability for area customers.
Plans call for rebuilding the power line in the existing right-of-way, although existing easements may need to be updated to ensure the safe construction, operation and maintenance of the line.
Project Updates
Fall 2025: AEP Ohio representatives announced the project summer 2022. In 2023, the project team began reviewing and revising the schedule. The timeline below incorporates those updates. Landowners along the line route can expect to hear from a Contract Land Staff (CLS) agent, AEP Ohio's right-of-way representative for this project, to answer any questions about the project, including easements, field activities and next steps.
