Hillsboro - Portsmouth138-kV Transmission Line Rebuild Project

AEP Ohio representatives plan to upgrade the electric transmission network serving customers in Adams, Highland, Pike and Scioto counties. The Hillsboro-Portsmouth 138-kV Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves rebuilding about 50 miles of transmission line.

Company representatives plan to rebuild the power line in the existing right-of-way, although they might need to acquire new easements or supplement current easements to ensure the safe construction, operation and maintenance of the line. Crews are expected to begin construction in fall 2022 and conclude in fall 2025.

Project Updates

Early 2025: Crews began construction spring 2022. Construction continues, and company representatives expect to complete construction summer 2025.

AEP Ohio representatives received approval for a regulatory application (Case No. 24-0796-EL-BNR) from the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) in November.
