Hillsboro - Portsmouth138-kV Transmission Line Rebuild Project

AEP Ohio representatives plan to upgrade the electric transmission network serving customers in Adams, Highland, Pike and Scioto counties. The Hillsboro-Portsmouth 138-kV Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves rebuilding about 50 miles of transmission line.

Company representatives plan to rebuild the power line in the existing right-of-way, although they might need to acquire new easements or supplement current easements to ensure the safe construction, operation and maintenance of the line. Crews are expected to begin construction in fall 2022 and conclude in fall 2025.

Project Updates

Fall 2024: AEP Ohio representatives submitted a regulatory application (Case No. 24-0796-EL-BNR) to the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) in August. Company representatives expect OPSB approval of the application in November.

Summer 2022: AEP Ohio crews began construction spring 2022. Company representatives expect to complete construction summer 2025.
