ElginTransmission Line Project

AEP Ohio representatives plan power grid upgrades in Van Wert, Allen and Auglaize counties. The upgrades support Midwest Electric and address the growing power demand in the area.

The project involves:

  • Building about 3.5 miles of transmission line primarily along existing roadways from Midwest Electric’s proposed Elgin Substation off State Route 116 to an existing transmission line off Henne Road.
  • Installing a switch pole off Henne Road to provide power to the new transmission line.

Project Updates

Fall 2025: Company representatives determined a final line route after reviewing input from landowners and community members following the project announcement and open house in late 2023. Landowners along the final route can expect to hear from a right-of-way agent to discuss next steps about field activities and right-of-way easements. Construction activities are planned to begin fall 2026 and continue through spring 2027.
