Indiana Michigan Power plans to upgrade the power grid in the Niles area by making improvements to the transmission infrastructure. The Niles Area Transmission Improvements Project helps strengthen the local power grid and increases electric reliability for area customers. Work is planned in Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan and St. Joseph County in Indiana.
Indiana Michigan Power representatives determined the new power line route after reviewing input provided by landowners and community members during the virtual open house and In-person open houses in March. Construction will begin fall 2023 and conclude spring 2024.
Crews plan to use primarily steel single poles on this project.
