Wallen RoadTransmission Line Rebuild Project
Indiana Michigan Power representatives plan to upgrade the electric transmission grid in northern Fort Wayne. The Wallen Road Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves replacing lattice structures along the north side of Wallen Road, between Wallen Substation off Lima Road and Interstate 69.
The project strengthens the local electric transmission system by replacing deteriorating towers and wires that date back to the 1930s with modern equipment. The power line has experienced several transmission service outages since 2015. These upgrades improve the line's operational performance, reduce the need for frequent maintenance and enhance local electric reliability.
Project Updates
- Spring 2025: As the project progresses, I&M representatives continue to work on the design and engineering of upgrades to the power grid. As a result, the project timeline has shifted. Company representatives are currently working to revise the project schedule, with construction planned to start in spring 2027.
- O.R. Colan (ORC) serves as I&M's right-of-way representative for this project. Landowners can expect to hear from a right-of-way agent to discuss field activities, construction and restoration.
