Indiana Michigan Power representatives plan power grid upgrades to improve electric reliability and efficiency for customers in north-central Indiana.
The East Elkhart Transmission Line Project involves:
The existing 60-year-old power line consists of aging equipment that does not meet today's operational standards. In the past decade, the existing power line has experienced five service interruptions resulting in extended power outages for area customers. The planned improvements provide a new power source to strengthen the local electric power grid, provide power to a future customer in the area and support economic development.
Company officials expect construction to begin summer 2024 and conclude spring 2025.
November 2022: I&M representatives invite the community to attend an in-person open house from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, at the Northern Indiana Event Center located at 21565 Executive Parkway, Elkhart, IN 46514. You can view detailed maps and talk with team members about the project. There is no formal presentation, so you can arrive at any time during the event.
I&M team members plan to provide masks and hand sanitizer at the event. Those who are experiencing fever, cough, body aches or other flu or COVID-19 symptoms are asked to stay home.
Community members who are unable to attend the in-person event can visit the virtual open house online at IndianaMichiganPower.com/EastElkhart to access information, view an interactive map, and submit comments through the website.
