LionTransmission Line Project


AEP Texas representatives plan power grid upgrades to improve electric reliability for customers in San Juan and Hildalgo County. The Lion Transmission Line Project involves building a new 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line and a new electrical substation to strengthen the local transmission system.

Project Updates

December 2023 Company representatives filed a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) following a review of public input on route link development and additional route analysis on December 1, 2023. 

May 2024 - The PUC approved the project and line route on May 2, 2024. View the PUC final order here.
