Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) plans to strengthen the electric transmission system in northeastern Indiana. The proposed improvements in Grant County involve rebuilding about 5 miles of power line and improvements to several local substations. The project involves rebuilding some sections of line in the company’s current right-of-way. Other sections of the project include re-routes and require new easements. These improvements increase reliability, reduce power outages and speed recovery of service when outages occur.
I&M representatives gathered input from community members and landowners in the project area during an Open House in December 2019. This information was used to determine a final proposed line route.

I&M plans on using steel monopole structures averaging 75-feet in height. Structures will be placed within a 60-foot right-of-way.
Portions of the line will be built in or adjacent to the existing right-of-way, other areas will require construction in new areas and with new easements.
* Exact structure, height and right-of-way may vary
