Wallen Road Transmission Line Rebuild Project
Indiana Michigan Power representatives plan to upgrade the electric transmission grid in northern Fort Wayne.
The Wallen Road Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves:
- Vegetation Management to trim and remove trees to prevent outages.
- Rebuilding about 3 miles of 69-kV power line along the north side of Wallen Road, between Wallen Substation off Lima Road and Interstate 69.
The project strengthens the local electric transmission system by replacing deteriorating towers and wires that date back to the 1930s with modern equipment. The power line has experienced several transmission service outages since 2015. These upgrades improve the line's operational performance, reduce the need for frequent maintenance and enhance local electric reliability.
Project Updates
- Fall 2026: Forestry staking and clearing to start Fall 2026 and complete late 2026. See postcard communications for more information.
- Line construction to start early 2027 to complete by summer 2027.
- Previously replaced poles will remain.
- O.R. Colan (ORC) serves as I&M's right-of-way representative for this project. Landowners can expect to hear from a right-of-way agent to discuss field activities, construction and restoration.
