Blanchard - North MarketTransmission Improvements Project

Southwestern Electric Power (SWEPCO) representatives plan to strengthen the local electric transmission system in northwest Louisiana by rebuilding a 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line.

The transmission line was constructed in 1961 and is past its planned service life. The project:

  • Replaces deteriorating poles with modern, single-pole steel structures
  • Strengthens the system against severe weather impacts
  • Decreases the likelihood and duration of wide, community-sustained outages

PROJECT UPDATES

Spring 2024: SWEPCO representatives hosted an in-person open house at Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College in Shreveport on May 8 for affected members of the public to learn more about the project from project team members.

Volkert, Inc., serves as SWEPCO's right-of-way representative for this project. Volkert right-of-way agents plan to contact affected landowners to discuss field activities, easement acquisition and construction.
