Appalachian Power plans to make upgrades to the Baileysville - Tams Mountain 46-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to provide customers in Wyoming County with a more robust and reliable power grid.
The Pineville Area Power Improvements consist of upgrading approximately 17 miles of transmission line to 138 kV standards and making upgrades to existing substations in the project area.
Construction is currently underway and is estimated to be complete by the end of 2020.
11/27/2020: Construction is currently on hold and is expected to restart in February 2021. The project is expected to be complete by summer 2022.
10/29/2019: The project schedule has shifted. Construction is currently underway and is estimated to be complete by the end of 2020.
03/14/2019: Construction at existing substations and of the transmission line is underway. The project is expected to conclude by the end of the year.
4/05/2018: Appalachian Power has determined a proposed line route for the Pineville Area Power Improvements. Appalachian Power right-of-way representatives from Contract Land Staff, LLC will start the process of reaching out to directly involved landowners to discuss upcoming activities.
2/06/2018: Appalachian Power held an open house at Southern WV Community & Technical College to introduce study segments, answer questions related to the project and gather feedback from the community.

Proposed structures will vary depending on location. The average height of structures along the route is 75 feet. Appalachian Power is using galvanized steel H-frame structures to replace wood structures.
