Appalachian Power is planning to improve local electric reliability to customers and increase economic development opportunities in Botetourt County by building new electric facilities in the Botetourt Center at Greenfield.
The proposed work includes building a new 138-kilovolt (kV) substation, approximately 3 miles of distribution line and a small section of transmission line to connect the new substation to an existing 138 kV transmission line.
Once approval is received, construction is expected to start summer 2019 and last about a year.
07/23/2020 - Construction is complete and the Botetourt Substation is in-service.
10/31/2019 - Construction of the Botetourt Substation is underway and is expected to conclude the summer of 2020.
03/13/2019 - Construction of the Botetourt Substation will begin next week. Crews will be on site grading in preparation for equipment deliveries. Neighbors may notice an increase of heavy equipment on the roads.
05/31/2018 - Appalachian Power will host an informational open house to introduce the project to the community and answer any questions related to the project. The open house will be Monday, June 11 from 2-4:30 p.m. at the Greenfield Education & Training Center, Daleville.
5/22/2018 - Appalachian Power received it's Special Use Permit from the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors to construct the project.
