Public Service Company of Oklahoma, in conjunction with AEP Oklahoma Transmission Company, is planning to invest approximately $19 million in electrical infrastructure upgrades in order to meet capacity needs for the City of McAlester and the Steven Taylor Industrial Park. Plans call for the addition of two new substations and approximately 8 miles of 138 kilovolt (kV) transmission line. The enhancements will benefit the area by increasing system capacity, improving reliability and allowing the company to more effectively isolate outages when they occur.
The new 138 kV power line and substations will provide additional capacity for future growth in the region. In addition to the increased capacity, the reinforcements will improve reliability by allowing the company to more effectively isolate outages when they occur.
The McAlester Area Improvements Project is needed to meet current and future capacity needs in the McAlester area.
The new 138 kV poles will be single-pole steel structures. They will be approximately 90 feet tall. The average span length will be about 500-600 feet.
The right-of-way width for this line will be 100 feet, or 50 feet on each side of the centerline.
