West Bellaire-Glencoe 138kV Transmission Line Rebuild Project

    The West Bellaire-Glencoe 138-kV Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves upgrading about 6 miles of existing 69-kV transmission line to 69/138-kV. The project traverses Pultney, Richland and Smith townships in Belmont County. The last major reinforcement in this area was done more than 60 years ago.

    The existing 69-kilovolt (kV) facilities were built in the 1940s. These will be replaced steel, single pole structures that are somewhat taller and of sturdier construction. This will allow the lines to carry more current and help meet customers’ increased demand for power. The company anticipates completion of this project in 2019.

    The West Bellaire-Glencoe 138-kV Transmission Line Rebuild Project will help ensure the continued reliability of the transmission system, which is vital to AEP Ohio’s current customers and supports the development of the area’s economy.

    AEP Ohio projects the West Bellaire-Glencoe line will be an approximate $10 million investment by the company.

    Project Updates

    The OPSB granted a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need to construct the West Bellaire-Glencoe 138 kV transmission line on January 18, 2018. Construction is underway on the approximate 6-mile line. Structures and equipment are being installed. This project is expected to be complete by summer 2019.

    Proposed Structures

    AEP Ohio will build new steel, single pole structures that will be about 95-feet tall. The structures will be placed in the center of an approximate 100-foot wide right-of-way corridor.
