North WoosterArea Reinforcements Project, Phase II

AEP Ohio announced in October 2017 a two-phase project in Wooster, Ohio to improve electric reliability and support economic development. Construction crews completed the first phase of the North Wooster Area Reinforcements Project in June 2018.

The second phase involves:

  • Rebuilding approximately 5 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line
  • Building the new Tigers Substation
  • Building the new Compton Substation
  • Upgrading Highland Avenue Substation

The company plans to complete most of the work in its existing right-of-way, although it might need to supplement current easements. Plans call for installing steel, single-pole structures about 90 feet tall and placing the structures in an approximate 50-foot wide right-of-way corridor. Work begins in this fall and concludes in Fall 2021.

Project Updates

Early 2020: O.R. Colan Associates (ORC), AEP Ohio's right-of-way representative during this project, is currently working with landowners on this portion of the project.
