Malvern - Minerva 69 kV Transmission Line Project

The Malvern-Minerva 69 kV Transmission Line Project involves updating about 6 miles of transmission line in Brown Township in Carroll County. Updating the transmission line with modern equipment improves electric service reliability, reduces the likelihood of extended power outages and speeds recovery time when outages do occur.

The project includes rebuilding about 5 miles of transmission line in AEP Ohio’s existing right-of-way corridor; however, in some cases, easements may need to be supplemented and updated. The remaining mile will require construction in new areas. We are asking for input on the proposed study segments so we can determine a route for the new section of line.

The line will use primarily steel single pole structures that will be about 85-feet tall. Structures will be built within a 50-foot right-of-way corridor. AEP Ohio anticipates completion of this project in early 2019. Early estimates show this is an approximate $10 million investment.

    Project Updates

In February, AEP Ohio launched a Virtual Open House about this project. The virtual informational open house provided an opportunity for residents to offer input, ask questions and learn more about the transmission line project. The project team will work on selecting a line route for the new sections.
