    Liberty 138 kV Transmission Line Rebuild Project

    Power grid upgrades are under way to strengthen the electric system in Jackson and Ross counties. AEP Ohio and local electric cooperatives are coordinating efforts on the Jackson-Ross County Area Improvements project. The approximate $75 million investment by AEP Ohio involves building 35 miles of power line, building three substations and upgrading other electrical facilities to increase service reliability and support economic growth.

    The Liberty 138-kV Transmission Line Project is part of the multi-phase Jackson-Ross County Area Improvements project. This phase involves building approximately 7 miles of power line to 138-kV standards.

    Project Updates

    Late 2019: Right-of-way agents are working with landowners to acquire necessary easements where authorized. An amendment filed with the Ohio Power Siting Board on October 28, 2019 is awaiting approval.

    Fall 2019: AEP Ohio filed an amendment for Liberty 138-kV Transmission Line Project with the Ohio Power Siting Board. The amendment is still under review.

    Structures

     

    Proposed Structures

    Proposed structures will vary depending on location. The project will use several structure types, including steel H-frame and monopoles that will be about 100-feet tall. The structures will be placed in the center of an approximate 100-foot wide right-of-way corridor.
