Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is rebuilding the 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line that is located in Winchester and to the outskirts of Union City. The improvements are essential to ensure continued reliable electric service is available for local customers.
The approximately $11 million project includes upgrading the 6-mile 69 kV transmission line and will decrease the potential for power outages and speed recovery of service when outages occur. Most of the project will be rebuilt on the existing path. Alternative study segments are being considered and evaluated for new construction along other portions. The interactive map above shows the proposed study segments in relation to the existing lines.

A public Open House will be held to gather input from local residents. Representatives from I&M will be available to discuss specific aspects of the project and to answer questions residents may have. Feedback from the community will be gathered from this event and used to help determine the final proposed line route. The Open House will be informal, and can be attended at any time during the evening and is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 29 from 5:30 PM-7:30 PM at the Towne Square Community Centre located at 123 W. Franklin Street, Suite 101 in Winchester.
Existing wood poles will be replaced with steel monopole structures. The structures will range from approximately 65 to 85-feet in height.
I&M is committed to meeting the energy needs of customers while protecting the environment and natural beauty of the region.
