Hartford CityArea Improvements

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) plans to strengthen the transmission system in eastern Indiana. The improvements in Blackford County increase reliability, lessen power outages, and speed recovery ofservice when outages occur.

The approximate $21 million investment involves:

  • Upgrading about 4 miles of 34.5-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to 69 kV between Royerton and Eaton.
  • Rebuilding about 8 miles of 69-kV line between Hartford City and Dunkirk, including re-routing 2 miles of the line around Dunkirk.
  • Building an electrical substation near the intersection of West Crannell and South Stringtown roads in Eaton.
  • Removal of transmission lines from portions of this project may only include the wires. Poles shared with lower voltage wires and other utilities will remain.
