Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is upgrading the power grid in Elkhart County in northeastern Indiana. The Elkhart Network Improvements Project upgrades the transmission infrastructure to support the electric distribution network and provide a reliable flow of electricity to area customers.
Improvements to the area substations and rebuilding two 2-mile transmission lines decrease the potential for outages and speed recovery of service when outages occur.
Early 2018: Indiana Michigan Power announces the final proposed line routes for the Elkhart Network Improvements Project. The announcement follows a comprehensive routing study and public open house held in July. Crews will be conducting land survey work along the final proposed line routes, and right-of-way agents will work with landowners to discuss easements.
I&M is committed to meeting the energy needs of customers while protecting the environment and natural beauty of the region.
