Appalachian Power and its affiliate, AEP West Virginia Transmission company, plan to increase reliability in Cabell and Lincoln counties by making upgrades to its current transmission grid in southeast Cabell County.
The company identified the need to address electric load concerns in winter 2014 when weather temperatures reached extreme levels. The proposed Southeast Cabell County Area Improvements Project will provide residents and businesses a modern network capable of handling increased load while ensuring reliable electric service.
The proposed work includes building about 4 miles of new transmission line and a substation. All work will be done in Cabell County and requires new right-of-way.
Estimated budget for the project is $20 million.
Transmission line construction is underway on the Southeast Cabell County Area Improvements Project. The project is expected to be in-service by the end of the year.
