AEP Southwestern Electric Power Company is planning to rebuild about 6 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line in the Henderson area. These upgrades will strengthen the local transmission system and help to ensure continued reliability and adequate supply of electric power for the area’s growth and economic development. The company expects to invest nearly $9 million on this project.
The project consists of rebuilding approximately 6 miles of 69-kilovolt transmission line and additional upgrades at two existing substations.
Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the regional transmission organization, identified the need for these upgrades to bring the system up to current standards and to address local electricity supply concerns. SPP operates under federal mandate to ensure reliable supplies of power and adequate transmission infrastructure.
Crews will begin building the line in Fall 2017. The company expects to complete construction by Summer 2018.
Pre-construction activities, such as installation of gates and culverts along the line, will begin in the coming month. Construction of the line to replace the existing structures will begin in November. All affected landowners will receive notification of those various activities as the project progresses.
