AEP Ohio is improving the electric transmission system in Brown County. The Sardinia Area Improvements involves building about 5 miles of new 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line, upgrading a substation and removing about 12 miles of 69 kV transmission line. AEP Ohio would like input on the proposed study segments so we can determine a route for the new line.
Adding the new transmission line and upgrading the substation provides an additional power source to the electric transmission grid and updates aging infrastructure to provide reliable electricity to area customers.
The line will likely run through Eagle Township in Brown County, east of Sardinia. AEP Ohio anticipates building the new transmission line primarily with steel single pole structures that will be approximately 110-feet tall.
The projected costs of the upgrades are approximately $19 million.
AEP Ohio and its affiliate, AEP Ohio Transmission Company, Inc., hosted a public informational open house. The public informational open house took place on February 1, 2018. Visitors offered input, asked questions of project team members and learned more about the new transmission line. The project team is preparing its application to the Ohio Power Siting Board.
