Liberty 138 kV Transmission Line Rebuild Project

The proposed Liberty 138 kV Transmission Line Project is part of the overall Ross-Jackson Area Improvements Project. AEP Ohio plans to improve the reliability of the electric transmission system in Ross County. The Liberty 138 kV Transmission Line Project consists of upgrading about 7 miles of transmission line. The projected costs of the upgrades are approximately $17 million, an investment that will enhance reliability in the area and reduce the possibility of extended power outages.

The existing transmission line has reached an age where it needs to be replaced. Replacing aging equipment with modern structures and wires provides the region with a more reliable power source.

Project Updates

AEP Ohio and its affiliate, AEP Ohio Transmission Company, Inc., hosted a public informational open house. The public informational open house took place on January 25, 2018. Visitors offered input, asked questions of project team members and learned more about the new transmission line. The project team is preparing its application to the Ohio Power Siting Board.

In March 2018, AEP Ohio Transco filed an application with the Ohio Power Siting Board requesting permission to construct this project. The OPSB will review the Application prior to setting dates for public hearings.
