Current Projects

Cass County Area Improvements Project

The Cass County Area Improvements Project will strengthen the current electric transmission system in southwest Michigan. Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) will upgrade existing facilities to provide a reliable flow of electricity to its customers. The approximately $75 million investment is critical due to an aging system and to accommodate for the region’s future growth.

Marcellus Area Improvements

The Marcellus Area Improvements Project will strengthen the current electric transmission system in Western Michigan. Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) will build new power lines and substations, as well as update existing facilities to provide a reliable flow of electricity to its customers. The $30 million investment is critical for improved reliability and to accommodate for the region’s future growth.

Sister Lakes Upgrades Project

The Sister Lakes Upgrades Project will strengthen the current electric transmission system in Western Michigan. Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) will build new power lines and substations, as well as update existing facilities to provide a reliable flow of electricity to its customers. The $45 million investment is critical for improved reliability and to accommodate for the region’s future growth.

Sturgis Area Improvements

Indiana Michigan Power is upgrading a portion of the Pigeon River – Sturgis transmission line. The rebuilt is approximately 3 miles and connects the Stubey Road Substation to the Sturgis Substation. The improvements in St. Joseph County in Michigan proactively replace an infrastructure that has reached an age where it is in need of rebuild and redesign to improve reliability for customers across the region.

Three Rivers Transmission Line Rebuild Project

Indiana Michigan Power is rebuilding approximately 6 miles of 69 kilovolt (kV) transmission line and constructing a new substation. The improvements in St. Joseph County in Michigan proactively replace an infrastructure that has reached an age where it is in need of rebuild and redesign to improve reliability for customers across the region.

Twin Branch – Kenzie Creek Transmission Line Rebuild Project

Indiana Michigan Power is upgrading the electric transmission grid in St. Joseph County in northern Indiana and Cass County in southern Michigan. This project rebuilds approximately 7 miles of 138 kilovolt transmission line to provide a reliable flow of electricity to customers. The approximately $15 million project will update an aging infrastructure, reducing the risk of extended power outages in the region.

Valley Area Improvements Project

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is upgrading the electric transmission grid in Van Buren, Berrien and Cass counties in southwestern Michigan. The program, comprised of East Valley Upgrades and West Valley Upgrades, enhances the transmission system to provide a reliable flow of electricity to customers. The approximately $146 million investment rebuilds an aging infrastructure to improve its condition and address performance issues.

Vicksburg - Schoolcraft Improvements

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is enhancing the power grid in Kalamazoo County. The approximately $30 million Vicksburg – Schoolcraft Improvements is essential to improve reliability for the region by constructing a new substation, retire an existing substation, constructing a new approximately 5-mile 69 kilovolt transmission line and upgrading an existing substation.
