Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is improving the local electric transmission system. The Aviation Project provides reliable energy supply for the new BAE Systems’ facility and improves the transmission system to serve future growth in Waynedale and the Fort Wayne International Airport area.

Project details include:

  • Constructing a new Aviation Substation
  • Building a new 1.7-mile 138 kilovolt transmission line connecting the Aviation Substation to the Waynedale Substation
  • Building a new 3-mile line connecting the Aviation Substation to the Ellison Road substation

The Aviation Project is essential to improve service for customers, cut down on power interruptions and speed recovery of service if outages occur.

Proposed Structures

I&M will construct new steel monopole structures averaging 70 to 95-feet high. Structures will be centered on a right-of-way averaging 100 feet wide.
