In order to ensure adequate and reliable electric service and to accommodate future growth, Appalachian Power plans to construct one new substation and approximately 9 miles of new 138-kilovolt (kV) electric transmission line to connect substations in the area. The project was announced in November 2012. Following extensive public comment, the company identified a preferred proposed route for the project. In November 2013 the company filed a request with the Virginia State Corporation Commission to construct the project. The application initiates the state-level review of the request (see Siting Process). The project is expected to cost about $28 million.
